JU teachers demonstrate demanding senate polls
Teachers of the Jahangirnagar University staged a sit-in for two hours in front of the administrative building demanding cancellation of the special senate meeting to nominate three persons for the post of vice-chancellor.
The teachers under the banner of âShammilito Shikkhak Parishadâ have been demonstrating for last two days demanding senate election prior to the special senate meeting schedule to be held on July 20.
The demonstrators also demanded for elections of syndicate members, provosts, deans, Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (Jucsu) and registered graduates’ election before the senate meeting.
The teachers alleged that all the members of the senate are holding the posts without any election.
As per the university rule, the senate members must be first elected and selected so that it can then nominate the persons for the post of the vice-chancellor, they added.
