3 RHD engineers asked to explain ‘duty negligence’

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader has ordered to send show cause notices to three top officials of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in Chittagong zone for alleged negligence of duty to repair roads.

The minister’s order came around 10:30am Saturday while paying a sudden visit to the Hathazari-Bhatiary road to see the repair works.

The officials are – RHD Chittagong zone Executive Engineer Rana Priyo Barua, Sub-Divisional Engineer Zulfikar Ahmed and Supervising Engineer Zia Uddin.

The minister gave the order as they failed to complete the repair works of the road from the city’s Oxygen intersection to Hathazari and also they did not start the repair works of the Hathazari-Bhatiary road.

RHD Chief Engineer (Chittagong zone) Aminur Rahman Loskor has been asked to send them show-cause notices seeking explanation why they should not be sacked, minister Quader told reporters.

The minister became frustrated after paying a sudden visit to the Hathazari-Bhatiary road though it was not in his schedule. He also did not get any ‘valid reasons’ for not starting the repair works.
