Chanel’s Metiers d’Arts collection
Karl Lagerfeld presented his Metiers d’Arts pre-fall collection in Paris this week, with a working theme of ‘Paris–Bombay’. It was a blockbusting affair, complete with banquet tables and lashings of Indian references (despite the fact that Karl says he’s never actually been to India). He quipped backstage: ‘It’s much more inspiring not to go to places than to go’
This collection featured a lot of hand crafted embellishment, which might have been Indian in flavour but was made by the Chanel ateliers in Paris. This look was made of house classics: a skirt with jacket in a tweedy boucle wool, pearls used as décor on pockets and cuffs and a quilted handbag. The head jewel was a nod to India, which is an emerging market in fashion, though the dreadlocks up-do is a curve-ball There was a red and pink section in the midst of all the India via France theme, of which look 41 stood out. This maxi-length serving of sugary pink is more than a bit .
